L-Taraval has highest missed total runs out of all rail lines

On Monday’s San Francisco Board of Supervisors City Neighborhood and Operational Services committee, Muni officials said that the percentage of scheduled service for the light-rail vehicles is improving. Between February and September, April was the worst month with the L-Taraval missing almost 14 percent of the scheduled runs. The M-Oceanview followed with 11 percent in the same month.

Although September painted a better picture for Muni light-rail, the L-Taraval has still the highest of total missed runs at 5 percent. John Haley, transit director of operations, explained that the data did not account for the bus service supplementing the L-Taraval line. The bus service began because there were not enough light-rail drivers. Muni officials usually use the bus service during the peak of the evening commute where riders get off at West Portal Station to catch the bus.

Haley also said that the L-Taraval was the easiest route to bus out of all the other light-rail lines. Supervisor Carmen Chu brought up the issue and said that it was not fair and right for L-Taraval Muni riders to be singled out. The topic of supplemental bus service for light-rail vehicles will certainly be a topic at the next light-rail performance update with the Board of Supervisors.

So Muni riders: Do you like the bus supplemental service? Sound off!

I am a regular L train rider and no, I do not like the supplemental bus service. My commute is often at least an hour long going between embarcadero to sunset and taraval and I find it extremely inconvenient to have to switch to a bus half way through. Though I prefer switching to stopping the line at 22nd as they often do.
